We have removed many tree stumps, and typically removal leaves a large hole that still needs to be filled in. With a stump grinder, the work is much less intensive, and shreds the stump down into small woodchips. Grinding is much more efficient than stump removal, however it does leave the tree’s roots behind. But those tree roots do not harm anything as they decompose nor do they attract bugs the way a soft rotten stump would. It is a heavy piece of equipment, so it should only be used by somebody with experience using heavy machinery.
