Owning several 18V competitors tools I had for some time now been considering purchasing a competitors 18Vmower(takes 2 18V batteries). When the deck of my old gas powered walk behind literally rusted and broke apart I was forced to make a decision. The EGO won out over the competitors 18Vbased on cost comparison and other competitors based on research and reviews. I was a bit skeptical of the plastic deck and amount of plastic in its construction, however, it does seem very well engineered and built. The plastic deck may be a positive considering rust issues with steel decks as they age. I believe EGO offers a cast aluminum deck option but that also puts the price point in the range of the Milwaukee mower. I have only used the mower twice, with the bagger and mostly for fall clean-up work so mostly leaves. I believe I got all the advertised run time and more on a full battery charge. The mower is light enough and pushed easy enough that I did not use the self-propelled function so I can’t comment on how much battery time I would have lost running self-propelled. I am sure my wife will appreciate the self-propelled feature and not having to deal with gas or pull starting. Overall, I am very satisfied with my decision on the EGO and time will tell on durability and longevity. As far as charging the battery, it seemed very quick, as in less than 2 hours. Be aware that the battery has a sleep mode to help extend its life that reduces the charge down to 30% after 30 days of being stored. Just make sure to give it a full charge in the spring or after sitting for 30 days. The only other negative I never thought of until reading reviews is it seems due to the electric motor and battery it isn’t recommended to hose the deck to clean. It does clean easily with a wet rag or sponge. [...]
